Solane House

The site

A clearing in a eucalyptus forest, often wrapped in mist. The house had to sit low, protect itself from bushfire and let the forest remain the main event.

The approach

A single concrete bar holds every room, with deep timber-lined openings facing the trees. A black reflecting pool runs along the facade and doubles the light at dawn and dusk.

Non-combustible materials, sheltered decks and a planted firebreak make the house as resilient as it is quiet.
